Heard it Through the Grape Vine

If you follow my blog posts, you'll know that I brewed up an Oatmeal 'Raisin' Stout for the latest KC Irishfest Stout competition. Then I see this picture today. Maybe FCB was reading my blog (probably not):

Also to note, the raisins were my wife's idea. Then I checked on beeradvocate to make sure no one's done it before (not that it mattered anyway).

I had an FCB Z beer the other night. It was easily the best one in my mix-n-match six pack.

How did you place? I never heard

That sounds good. How'd it turn out? It's funny but I was eating the last of my chocolate chip oatmeal cookies today and thought about doing it. Did you boil the raisins in anything special? I thought about some dark rum. I can't do it this year, too much on my brewing list already.

Well I never found out where I placed, but I did get judges comments back. I know that I didn't get 3rd place or better, but there were a lot of entries. I'm not worried, I just wanted the comments to make my beer better and get some competition experience.

Fred, I think you can dig around on my site to see the brew ingredients and the brew day when I brewed it. But my wife heated some rasins, blended them with some vanilla. Then I put that mess in a cheese cloth in a series of funnels to bottle over (of course everything was sanitized first).

My brew turned out to be very very tasty, but I don't think it kept well and some had an off-flavor that wasn't pleasant. Overall a success for my first all-grain and I learned a ton.
